Catbird Theatre Company

Catbird Theatre was founded in March of 2023 by Alice Beaver Clapham. It specialises in creating high quality professional new works for young audiences. Our intention is to produce shows that are suitable and sustainable for in-house seasons and touring to reach as many young people as possible. We are based in Noosa and the Sunshine Coast. Our first show, Stark Raven Mad, is an interactive poetry show for people 6 and up. It had an in-house run at the Black Box in Nambour in 2023. In 2024 it went to the Anywhere Festival in Brisbane where it won 'Best Spoken Word and Idea'. We went on to tour this show to community halls and schools on the Sunshine Coast.

Our second show, The Party, received funding in 2024 through a RADF from Noosa Council and the QLD Government. This whimsical show with multiple sensory elements is for preschool-aged children. In 2024 it toured around Noosa and the Sunshine Coast to community centres, libraries, and kindy's.  In 2025, it toured to Gympie at Perseverance Street Theatre and to libraries in Toowoomba, Warwick, and will tour to Redlands and Lockyer Valley (where it received funding from another RADF) in May. Mid-2026 The Party will tour to Townsville and Cooktown. Our newest show, Metamorphoses, is a co-production with Parados Productions.  It is a new rendition of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It will have a 4 show season at the Black Box Theatre in Nambour. This show is for people 8 and up. This show has plans to tour in 2026.

We also offer workshops for kids during the school holidays. Some of our most popular workshops are puppet making, theatre games, and a play in a day.
