Mica Valerio

Micaela Valerio is an Argentinian contemporary dance artist, performer, and interdisciplinary creator based in Queensland, Australia. With an early training background in ballet, contemporary dance and urban styles, her current practice today is rooted in contemporary movement, improvisation, and experimental performance.

Her work explores themes of memory, grief, identity, environmental and social change, and the emotional landscapes of the body. Through repetition, stillness, fragmentation, and audiovisual experimentation, Micaela creates immersive works that exist between dance, film, and performance art.

She has developed and directed independent projects including contemporary interventions, dance films, and collaborative performances, often working alongside musicians, visual artists, and filmmakers.

Micaela’s practice is deeply process-led and socially engaged, using the body as both witness and archive to investigate personal and collective experiences.

Alongside her contemporary practice, Micaela has experience in performance entertainment. She has performed in roving and site-specific works for festivals, community events, and immersive experiences, creating dynamic interactions between movement, audience, and environment. Her background also includes go-go dancing and event performance. These experiences continue to inform her artistic practice, bringing a sense of versatility, presence, and connection to her work across both commercial and contemporary contexts.
